In May 2007, after a 16 year layoff from Triathlons, at age 41, I decided to get back into shape and lost 50lbs. I also beat my best Ironman, Half Ironman and Olympic distance triathlon times I set in my early 20's. I know how fat, lazy, unhealthy and self conscious I felt during those layoff years and now my objective is to make a life long commitment to train for long distance triathlons. In 2009 I qualified for Clearwater and in 2010 I qualified for the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii.

Awesome - good luck with turning Pro dude. Fascinating to see if it works.
Have some thoughts on it if you're interested in a discussion - perhaps in Skype or via email.
This has fail written all over it. I thought you were an internet marketing guy?
You have the connection with your fans, dont sever it. Use it to drive them to other reasons to buy. Such as guest speaking, beer run, training camp, party night etc. You stand to make alot more off that, than subscriptions which only kills your community off.
Now your fanbase will die a slow death with nobody to replace them. Paywalls fail. Locking your content up will only drive people elsewhere.
I know you said 'you dont care if anyone reads your blog' but you have built something special here. The comments and community are priceless. Dont kill it. Embrace it and make money by other means.
Welcome to the age of the internet.
JP, haha. Like I said, it's not important to get membership, I do the blog for me and my family and I no longer want the info in the public domain. With that said, the subscriptions are flowing in like mad. Go figure. haha
Although I do aprechiate the feedback and it would be good advice if it was a commercial venture.

JP, oh by the way, if you like the blog and community, how come I haven't seen your subscription yet? haha

I hope you are still blogging. It looks like this was your last post. I wanted to pass this along to you in hopes that it would reach your super athelete community. A co-worker of mine is running the Hurt 100 race in Hawaii January 15. All the proceeds he raises is going to be donated to our friend Chad Davis who is battling Luekemia. Here is a link to the blog page that Brendan has set up for this race and a place for folks to submit their donations to. http://www.racefordavis.weebly.com/
I appreciate your time and hopefully assistance in spreading the word in your community.
