I didn't swim at lunch today. I was immersed in a project, papers spread all over my desk, and had a choice to make. Do I stay focused and finish? or do I go for my swim and hope I have the same enthusiasm and clarity when I return? I decided to go with "the bird in the hand" and finish up the project.
It was just as well because I wasn't feeling all that spry and I did a swim a couple days ago, so swimming today wasn't critical. I decided to rest up, not overeat and mentally prepare myself for tomorrows long ride and brick run.
I've been spending the night relaxing and planning my trip to LA. I'm really looking forward to training outside in warmer weather. I have just 5 long rides and runs left until China and two of them are going to be in sunny California, which means I only have 3 left in the cold weather. Looking at it in that way sure puts it in perspective that China is not far away and mentally I can see the light at the end of the tunnel with respect to indoor trainer riding.
I've also been trying to plan my race schedule for next year. I haven't decided yet, but I started by putting all the local races and official half and full Ironman's that I'd be prepared to travel to on my calendar. On the food front, Costco is now selling hard boiled eggs that are already peeled. It's a great idea. Who doesn't like a healthy boiled egg with salt on it?

I'm so jealous, two weeks in LA, nice! You are planning 2011 already? I have even decided on this year.
Too bad it's so cold out now, I was enjoying the warmer temps.
you should of gone for the swim, you would of felt refreshed and would of been easier to get the work done afterwards.
its crazy cold here in dallas today, 27, ouch, ive gotta go run 4.5 miles, guess im going to do it at the gym.
The eggs would need to be pickled for me to touch them...;)
With the incentive of a couple of long rides in LA soon, the trainer will hopefully be ok. You could swop trainers with me and stare at blue carpeted walls if you really want to be bored, I jest not.
BTW the Sufferfest site has two cycling videos that have got great reviews, Fightclub and The Downward Spiral.
Hi B.,
I am really, really happy for you that you managed to finish your long bike ride. After reading your today post and finding out that in a very small way I helped you finish your long bike ride I decided to re-post my drunken post that I deleted yesterday. Here it is, 100% sincere:
B., I wish you best of luck tomorrow with your long bike ride. I can only imagine how hard are your excessively long indoor bike rides. My longest indoor bike ride ever was 3.5 hours (and that was only once).
There are only 42 days left until IM China and I assume that translates to about 4 or 5 long bike rides left. And just remember (just a figure of speech because I know you remember) that the next 2 of those long rides will be outdoors in the sunny LA.
B., I’d like to emphasize again how you are an inspiration to me, but I can’t find the proper words to say it. That’s probably because English is not my first language and also because I am kind of drunk (again). Anyway, the idea is that you are the only one person who (I personally know) can drink a lot and in the same time be able to control yourself from drinking and strictly follow your training schedule. I know people who can drink a lot and I also know people who can strictly follow a schedule (I work in a small hedge fund with extremely ambitions people), but I do not know anyone else but you who can do both as good as you do.
And by the way, by drinking I mean that state when you are 100% sincere and you do not care about tomorrow. It is a wonderful state of mind and in today’s society there aren’t many people who can reach that state. I am in that state right now and I just feel wonderful and I am sure that I know you know what I mean. And I am not even that drunk, yet, as you can see from my spelling mistakes.
If someone deserves to qualify to Kona it is you. You did everything by the book so far. You are an inspiration to all of us and I hope that by this 100% sincere post I’ll help you just a little bit to find the energy to find your long ride tomorrow (it is 1:30 AM so it is today actually).
Again, good luck B., you definitely deserve it,
Dou
A, thanks, I'll looking forward to LA and training outside.
JAM, thanks for the comment. Going to the gym. That's warm weather to to me. Texas here I move.
JM, thanks. I've been looking at those video, they look good. I'll probably order them.
D, as always, thanks for the comment. As I mentioned in my post, it helped get me through it. The only thing I'm glad about is that I'm on the wagon. I've IM trained and drank lots of beer before, but it was outdoor training. I don't think I could drink and do the indoor training. After drinking, fresh air is a blessing.
