I'm proud to be a Canadian, I wouldn't want to be anything else and I often reflect on how lucky I am to be a Canadian. With all the instability in the world today, living in Canada is a gift. We have a beautiful country and by nature are a relaxed nation with a good sense of humor.
We get a long well with our U.S. neighbors and we export our comedians to them. Some include, Jim Carrey, Howie Mandel, Mike Myers, John Candy, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Tom Green, Phil Hartman, Rich Little, Eugene Levy, Norm Macdonald, Lorne Michaels, Rick Moranis, Leslie Nielsen, Catherine O'hara, Will Sasso, Martin Short, Seth Rogan, Dave Thomas and Dave Foley, just to name a few. And of course we gave the world Pam Anderson.
Canada Day is a national holiday and I'm enjoying it fully. As part of my taper I have no training today, although I did go for a mile run to evaluate my tight calf. I've had a history of getting a tight calf and not being able to run for 4 - 6 weeks. Thankfully I haven't had it for the past couple of years, but last night it started bothering me.
I went for my run and by the time I finished, it was much looser, which is a good thing. I'm also drinking lots of water because your calfs tend to get dehydrated first. I did my totals for last month, not bad considering I had 7 days off for taper and recovery and missed a few runs due to injury.
The picture I posted today was from the 1988 Hawaiian Ironman. I just crossed the finishing line. It's hard to see it, but I made a custom shirt with the Canadian flag on it and the words 100% steroid free. The reason I did that was because earlier in the Summer, Ben Johnson set the world record at the Olympics and got caught for steroid use and I thought it would be funny to do the Ironman wearing it and let everyone know not all Canadians take steroids.
