Drinking and writing is all bad...

Last week I didn't come close to achieving my eating and drinking goals. About midway through the week I gave up and decided I was going to officially start next week, which is today. Last week would be my last hurrah before my Ironman China training starts. I ate poorly, smoked cigars and drank all weekend. Last night I wasn't feeling well, so I did something we never do, I asked Alice if she wanted to go for a walk, I needed to clear my head. It must have looked funny, me walking with a beer and Alice a rum and coke. It was right out of "Trailer Park Boys".

I woke up this morning and read my blog. I wrote it when I was "feeling no pain" and I was like "holy sh*t", that's not what I meant. The last time I wrote like that was after the Louisville Ironman. I posted my blog, that night after 13 beers. When I woke up in the morning, I was shocked, erased it and started over. Drinking and dialing, or drinking and blogging, or drinking and twittering, or drinking and emailing is not good. Last night I called a guy a Lemming on twitter because I though he was inferring everyone should wear a yellow Lance Armstrong bracelet. We made up this morning. I guess it could be worse, just ask Tiger.

My Ironman training started today with weights at lunch time. Until I did that first weight exercise it felt surreal. Is this really happening? Is Ironman training really starting? Do I still have my training mojo? I made sure I used lighter than normal weights to ease into it, and did really slow reps. I have a bad shoulder that needs repair. For the weight portion of my training this year I'm going to do my reps much slower and deliberate, like I did in my first year. In my second year the reps were quicker in order to finish faster.

I googled the name of the kid that was doing the one on one session with me at the pool. His name is Cameron Bailey. Looks like he's one of the better swimmers on the McMasters team. If anyone knows how I can get a hold of him to ask if he does personal one on one coaching, drop me an email. I figure if I'm going to put in the pool time, I may as well try to get faster. In the past, I've just focused on doing the distance and not trying to improve my technique. My other motivation is because my ego was bruised when John Barclay beat me in a 25 meter swim race on Saturday. When John asked me for a race, I was cocky and thought I'd smoke him. Wrong! He gave me a serving of humble pie.

Also got some updated info on our Mantracker application. We didn't make it for Hawaii, they did pick locals and they are going to consider our application for season 6. To see the final email trail, click here.

I ate dinner and was on the bike by 6 pm. It was my first ride. I was looking forward to it and not. I was surprised how good I felt and 3 hours went by quicker than I thought it would. I was a little frustrated because my speedometer wasn't working right. It would go 12 seconds at the right speed and then 2 seconds at 20 kph. I like my stats to be accurate and this was frustrating. Maybe it's the battery?

Glad to be done my first day of training on this 14 week journey. I decided to do a Vlog (Video log) and post it. My plan is to do some periodically and put them on the blog. This past two days I've got more comments than I've ever got about a post. I can never predict which blog entries are going to have comments. The context is not what I wanted to convey and I'd be lying if I didn't say it's been bothering me emotionally. Anyways, onward and upward, you can't drive forward looking in the rear view mirror.

Day one of Ironman training is "in the can".

Weights - 30:00
Mod Bike - 2:550:01 / 76.56 km / 27.02 kph / avg hr 132 bpm
Diet 10/10

If you're in no condition to ride your bike, don't blog. That's the litmus test. :D

You've got to come up with a better litmus test than that. About 6 weeks ago I went on a 3 hour bike ride one morning in much worse shape than I was yesterday.

I did hear about some software for your phone and computer that makes you figure out math equations and such and if you can't answer them your computer won't open up. I should look into that.

How do you know no one's feelings weren't hurt?

Bryan said...

I'm sorry if your feelings were hurt, so long as this is not John Barclay. LOL

All kidding aside. If I did hurt anyone's feelings. I apologize. Wasn't my intent. Whatsoever.

Actually, I take that back, if Anonymous is Rich Sohor or John Barclay, I'm not sorry. You big babies.

I have a cateye computer on my bike and it will do the same thing. My theory is that it has something to do with either interference from the TV being so close or some kinda static electricity from the trainer. It's maddening because it cuts out and doesn't capture the workout properly. Can't see the VLOG as I have to be your "friend" or something?? Is it because I'm 40 and you're looking to downgrade to 20 and 30 year olds? ;0)
