Good news...

Okay, I'm slightly changing a couple of my goals. The first is from 30 beers per month to 40 and maximum daily Internet usage from 60 to 90 minutes. Even with those changes, they are still tough (BHAG) goals. I think the International rules for goal setting allows me to change them within the first 48 hours without penalty, regardless. Why did I change them?

First off, I got some great news from the doctor today. You may recall I had a diagnosis of liver disease this past June. I was re-tested a couple weeks ago and before hand I hadn't drank for 37 days and I ate healthy for 20 days. It must of helped because the improvement was significant. The doctor was more excited than me. He said "you've reversed the damage!". Hearing that never gets old.

Below is the data. My liver blood work is getting close to normal. I just got to focus on GGT, which is directly beer related. I think if I reduce my beer count from 118 per month to 40, it should get that back to normal.

Should Be Nov 09 June 09 Aug 05
GGT 60 or less 113 242 60
AST 37 or less 39 85 27
ALT 46 or less 46 78 38

Because my liver situation is not as dire, I'm upping my monthly beer allowance. Johan Stemmet made a good point about the home Internet usage, 60 minutes is unrealistic, especially with the time I spend writing my blog post. Unrelated, I also forgot a add a few other demographics of those who read my blog, I can't believe I forgot them. They are cops, fireman and women that gave me birth.

Another bit of good news is my new Captains hat arrived yesterday. Which was perfect timing. The hat I've been using was my grandfathers and was over 40 years old. I noticed after my last race that all the sweat was starting to damage the brim. Rather than wreck a family heirloom, I purchased a virtually identical hat off the Internet. It was so easy, with a click of the mouse it arrived in only 37 days.

I've been run down lately. It's been a combination of the Clearwater pressure and preparation, a longer than normal race season, post season blues, time spent finishing my year end videos, cramming to finish my year end blog book, big things going on at work, and Internet over usage.

For the past month I've had a bad back and cold sores. Two days ago I got my fourth cold sore and it's a doosey. If it gets any bigger it's going to need its own postal code. Last night I was so mentally tired and irritable after finishing the book layout that I decided to go for a short run at 10:30 pm. It felt great. By the time I got home I felt like a new man.

The only downside was that by running and not resting my body as I should, this morning my ankle was sore and legs stiff. It was the old man one step shuffle down the stairs. I've decided I'm not going to do anything until Saturday's workshop.

Rest Day

Nope, I don't like the idea of changing from 30 to 40 beers a month. 30 beers is an average of 1 per day, which is more than sufficient. 40 beers is inviting trouble. Go back to your original goal and stick to it. You were right the first time. Take it from a NON girlie-girl who didn't give birth to you. :-)

I'm looking at it different. You see I won't be drinking daily, just once a week, so that gives me 10 for each sitting. Even at that it's going to be tough. haha

drink a beer then a water then a beer and so on....that waters the beer down so you can stick to yourinflated goal. After all, the number of beers consumed relatess directly to the training intesity and race results! :) So, Cheers and go hard!

Thanks J, I tried that a couple of times but it waters down the buzz. Can't let that happen. haha

That's excellent news Bryan! You probably feel so relieved now. You should celebrate, with some beer of course :-).
40 beers a month is still a tough goal in my opinion, considering that it is 1/3 of what you used to drink before.

D, your right. I figure a 66% reduction is one BHAG.
