It all started after yesterday's run and continued into the morning. I just had nothing, all day at work I was dragging.
It was mostly physical tiredness, specifically in the heart-core area. Before I even got home from work, I decided to make today an unscheduled rest day.
I got home, graved carbs and ate three bowls of cereal, then napped on the sofa. I didn't even feel guilty about not training. I just felt wickedly exhausted. I slept as much as I could and then went downstairs to have a beer, thinking that would lift my spirits and energy.
One beer turned into seven and I started feeling much better. No surprise. As I was sitting with Alice, a tweet came in from @ree_ti_ree and it said "Sounds like a good day to S.I.U., baby!". It was in response to a tweet I sent earlier in the day, "I'm absolutely exhausted today".
At first I thought, "doesn't he know my body needs a rest, it's not mental, I've already decided not to train and I'm good with it". Then I thought, "wait a minute, I'm feeling much better and I got a nice buzz on, why not go for my run?". That's all it took. I didn't think any further. I quickly changed and was out the door.
It was a SLOW run. I knew it would be. My body was better, but still felt tired and after seven beers my resting heart rate was already at 81 bpm. I didn't care, it wasn't about speed. It was a moderate easy recovery run. My focus was just to keep the heart rate low and try to enjoy it.
It was a "time warp" run. I guess in my altered state, listening to my tunes, I tuned out. Even though I was running slow, the run seemed to go by fast. Physically, my quads and Achilles muscles were tight. I shuffled through the discomfort and in the end, think the run was beneficial in loosening them up. I'm glad I did the run. Thank you Mr. ree_ti_ree and Mr. Coors Light.
As a side bar, my son Reid is not the greatest student, book smarts left him long ago. But he has above average common sense, confidence and is incredibly creative. Before I went on my run, I went to my bedroom to change and saw his fine art work on the wall behind my bed. We thought he was upstairs doing his homework.
I would never have thought of doing it to my dad, it was a different era. I think I would have gotten in big trouble and referring to my dad as "Gay", I can't what he would say. Reid and my relationship is more like the movie "step brothers". He also keeps our house laughing all the time. I think he did his mural because he knew it would be "blog worthy". Show off.

Must agree, Reid is very creative, haha, had a good laugh at your bedroom pics.
Amzing about the tiredness, felt the exact same way yesterday and took an unscheduled rest day.
Did not have the courage you have to go and run after a few beers but I feel great this morning after rest day.
Not long anymore and IMSG will be done.
Best of luck with training

J, thanks and yah, Reid's a lot of fun, he gives me a good laughs all the time. I always joke that he has it so good at home and his mom treats him so well, that he'll be one of those 50 year olds who live at home. Like an Italian son. haha.
I saw your tweet about tiredness yesterday and thought we were on a parrellal universe. I probably should have taken the day off, it was a shuffle this morning.
Funny, I had concrete legs yesterday. If it weren't for my wife wanting to go for a run I would have hit the beers and called it a night too! Its good that she is my partner in crime because on these crappy motivation days one of us always pulls through and gets the other out.
I don't know that I have run that soon after anything more than 4 beers (annual beer mile in college). I commend you more on holding the beer down than actually getting off your butt and running ;)
Great job pushing through. Your body will thank you haha!
M, thanks. Holding the beer down isn't a problem. I have my annual 5 km "House of Payne" beer run and it's 6 beers at full out speed. I think I did a 23 minute 5 km, which included drinking 6 beers. One at every kilometer.
If I could and it would stay cold, I'd put a 6 pack in my special needs bag during and Ironman. If/When I do an ultra run, I'm definitely going to have my support group bring some cold ones. It's my spinaghge. haha.

HAHA I am so doing the the House of Payne this year!!! I will keep up with your blog and do it remotely, I have a buddy or two that would participate... although, they may not make it past the beer tables.
I wish I colod pull off the beers and running! Not a chance, I jhave 7 , there is a party going on at my house!
I can't believe you run after beer, that's just nuts. If I'm drinking, I'm drinking.. One activity at a time.
I couldn't post a comment on yesterdays post cause YUCK..
A, what can I say, I'm a flexible multi-tasker. I can do beer before, during or after. haha.
