I did no training today, but I didn't sit still.
Today was the FIRST nice day we've had all year, it got up to 23 C. My training plan for the day was "ribs and beers".
I picked up $50 worth of ribs. I had no choice. All the stores were closed, except for this "super expensive" boutique butcher shop in Oakville. Spending that much money, on only two slabs of meat, puts a lot of pressure on you to not screw up.
Unfortunately, it didn't help, I screwed up anyway. I have not yet mastered how to smoke ribs over charcoal. I'm getting better, but I'm not there yet. I figure I need another 2 hours of watching YouTube videos and another $200 of ribs going into the garbage, before I become a barbecue rib master.
The one thing I've noticed about the YouTube video's is all the guys have the same "Narrator Voice" voice from the the TV show "Dukes of Hazard". Maybe that's my problem, maybe I have to talk in that voice style during the entire cooking process?
My motivation to slow cook ribs for 6 hours is purely for background ambiance. It gives me something to do while I sit on my deck and drink beer. There's also nothing better than the smell of a barbecue smoking. I consider it a man's "Glade Air freshener", along with the other fragrance, "cigar smoke".
I screwed the ribs up by using too much salt and spices and the wrong marinating mixture. Other than that, they were perfect! Actually, they were pretty good, if you like your ribs tasting like wieners.
You know they're bad when you can't even eat them after 20 beers. If I sold those ribs to the U.S. Military, they'd have an alternative to water boarding. I'd probably even get a Nobel Peace Prize for the non-lethal effectiveness of my ribs.
Other than that, the night was rather uneventful. Well, except for the career and life counseling I was giving Nazaire, "Sergeant Hulka" style. Nazaire is Alyssa's boyfriend and he was a good sport about it. I took him to the edge of "tough love" mountain a couple of times. He's fitting in nicely, I'm starting to treat him like one of my kids.
After I finished my "good work" on Nazaire, I focused my attention on Reid. In very short order it turned into a world caliber wrestling match, Westle mania style. I was dominating, until Alice got involved.
The one thing I should know by now is never to come between a "mother bear and her cub". Sure enough, I put Reid in some sort of "torture" move and he starts yelling and the next thing I know, Alice is all over me like a "spider monkey". The tides turned quick and I felt like I was King Kong being brought down.
In the end, I did myself in. Early into the "one on one" match with Reid, I took out a black permanent marker and as I pinned him down, drew a moustache on him. With Alice joining the mix, they got the upper hand and wrote on my entire body. They got me especially good on the face and legs and even photographed their fine work.
The photo gave me a new business idea, "Drunken Glamour Shots" and my tag-line would be, "Show the Glow".

Great picture, lmao. Sorry about the ribs.. today's good enough for another shot, perhaps with a less expensive rack of ribs.
Cheers!!
It sounds like you had a perfect day!
It looks like the trampoline and beer go well together :-).
Cheers,
Doru
A, thanks, I think they really captured my best side. I think I may use it for the company Christmas card. haha.
D, it was a great day and no major bones were broken. Hence, it was a great day. Just strains and scrapes. haha.

I am 100% behind your drinking and fueling your workouts haha! My buddies and I did the Chicago Marathon back in 2005, the night before we went out and got lamb-basted after $1 drafts, shots, and jello shots we almost couldn't find our hotel room.
I ran a 3:45:57 for my first marathon. Somehow alcohol cleanses the soul :) hahaha. Ribs are difficult, they require patience of which I have none. However, the beer count has hit an impressive high. You are my hero B!
BTW, was the beer good that you got in China? We went to Hawaii a couple weeks ago and had some AWESOME brews from the Kona Brewery, I love tasting the local beers when we travel.
Keep up the good work and keep the relaxed lifestyle this time around, gotta enjoy these workouts :)
M, haha, thanks. I think you may even be crazier than me, getting drunk the night before a marathon. I'm sure Alice will aprechiate you putting that thought in my head. haha. Very impressive time, even if you weren't drinking.
Yes, the beer is EXCELLENT in China. The brands I drank were Tiger and Anchor. Looking back I should have done what you did in Chicago, just drank before hand. haha.
BTW, you the kind of guy I wouldn't mind doing a marathon with.
