I didn't get off until 4:30 pm. I must have spent at least $2000 on all that phone sex. Good thing I can expense it through the company. Just kidding, it's a taxable benefit.
In all seriousness, it was all work, work, work. I didn't even get a chance to leave my desk for lunch. Poor me.
By the end of the day I was mentally spent. In a former life, I would have came home, had a beer, crashed on the couch, watched some TV, napped a little and snacked for the entire night. In today's life, I came home, had a couple beers, chatted with Alice, ate dinner and hit the road for my speed bike session.
I got lucky, it stopped raining about 90 minutes beforehand. It had been raining on and off for the past two days. There is no better stress reliever and body energizer than training. The benefits of exercise never cease to amaze me. I got home feeling like a new man.
The past two days of training have been great! I'm FINALLY feeling like I'm back to normal since China. Tonight's ride included a 1 x 20 minute interval, and the best part was having to do it into a stiff head wind. It was like a 20 minute long hill. My heart rate was also back to training normals. I think I maxed out around 162 bpm. Last week it was in the 170's.
I was reading Johan blog and it's funny to hear Winter is coming to South Africa, while Summer is coming to Canada. Through twitter and the blogs, I tend to forget were on different continents.
Also, Johan's daughter DJ, posted a cool video that's included in his last post. Although, you do have to listen carefully, she has a very thick English accent.

it's good to hear about other people's former life been so similar to one's. Njoy ur spring time training
Buddy DJ is South African - She has an Afikaan accent and was speaking Afrikaan not an English one or speaking English (Johan will no doubt correct me if I';m wrong) - You Americans (insult intended) are all the same.
PS Does doing the South African Ironman fit with your armchair comfort definition of countries to do Ironman in? If so we should plan to do it one year - I did it in 2005 and loved it.

You're cracking me up. Good thing I'm not immigrating to Burlington, Ontario, Canada anymore. I won't be able to do any work with you around.
Yes DJ has a very deep English accent, but not as bad as her fathers-haha.
Agree with Simon, would be great if you can see another winter through training and come do IMSA.
We are not even close to China although many people down talk South Africa. It is an awesome country with much more to do and see as China.
We have all the Western food available-MacDonald, Pizza Hut, KFC.
Only thing not in SA is Starbucks, don't know why but someone will soon get that franchise started. Burger King is also about to open in SA.
Eating wise you won't starve or get a stomach bug.
And if there was a world championship for BBQ, a South African will win it no doubt. The best in the world.
Get that Computrainer and come to SA.

Training, sigh. Wish I would be allowed back on the track.
Thank you for following me. And wow, you made a massive change in only 2 years. Amazing.
Enjoy your weekend.
Cheers, San
V, thanks. It's amazing how we all share a similiar story.
S, I know DJ was speaking Afrikaans, I was making a joke. haha. (You have to check out the comment on Johan's blog, it's part of the joke). But you are right, all us Americans are the same. haha.
I'd say Ironman SA is right on the bubble. I wouldn't discount doing it.
J, glad you liked my humour on that one. haha.
OK, you and Simon have me convinced, I WOULD do IMSA, but I don't know if I want to do the winter training. (wait a year, my memory is so bad, I'll forget what this years winter training was like. haha). I was thinking if I did another winter race, I'd train to finish, not race. (I say that now anyways).
NO STARBUCKS!!!!! Awesome, I hate starbucks. Now I'm sold.
NO STOMACH BUGS!!!! Awesome, now I'm sold
WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP BBQ - Awesome, now I'm really sold.
I'm assuming you have good beer? If not, I won't be able to make it, I'll be washing my hair that night. haha.
S, Thanks. Hopefully things will turn for you.

Ah, sorry forgot to mention the most important. We have plenty of beer brands including Amstel. Sorry no Coors but we have Castle Lite that taste similar to Coors Lite.
No more excuse and at 8:1 exhange rate ratio you will be able to take half the country back to Ontario.
J
J, 8:1 exchange rate. Why didn't you say so. The kids have always wanted a baby Tiger. haha.
Only because it's you, I'll put it on the bucket list. Or if you do a NA race, I'll do it with you. Whatever comes first.

Congrats on getting back in the groove and having the training go your way.
Keep it up buddy (the beer count that is)!
I am going to start tapering my beer intake after this week, marathon end of April and actually want to get a good time :) Afterwords though, I will be a one beer queer ;)
WOW -- what an awesome journey you've been on! Just found your blog. GOOD FOR YOU!!!!! My hubby did Ironman wisconsin last year -- what an awesome experience!! GOOD LUCK TO YOU and look forward to watching your journey ahead!

NA race, Pick a race in 2011 and I'm there.

Very cool, what month works best for you?

I agree, there is no better stress reliever and body energizer than training. I usually train in the evening, after working hours, and when I end my training session I feel much, much better than before starting it.
I noticed that you do not have special glasses when you ride your bike. In my case, when I ride in the aero position I look straight into the top rim of my glasses, so I have to push them down my nose and look over them, which defeats the purpose of wearing glasses. Do you have the same problem?
M, thanks. Yah, I should start tapering to for IMSG. Good luck on the Marathon, what time are you shooting for?
RDM, thanks.
D, no, I normally wear sunglasses, but when I ride later in the evening, when it gets close to dark, or if it's really really cloudy, I'll just wear my regular glasses. I'm normally too lazy to change the lenses in my bolle's from dark to clear. When I race I wear contacts and just regular sunglasses.

B, I am gunning for anything under a 3hr 30min time for the marathon. I have run a 21 mile training run at 8:04 min/mile (you will have to do the conversion... us Americans don't understand metric!!! haha) and I had a 16 miler at 7:26 pace.
I am however battling an atrocious shin splint (which I think my last run has escalated it to a stress fracture status)... so who knows, I am stubborn enough to get my time, but do I risk the loss of a month of racing?!
M, that's a great time goal. That 16 miler was pretty fast. Truth be told I prefer imperial over metric for running.
Not good on the stress fracture. Can't help you on what approach to take, except I'd wait and figure it out during that first mile of the marathon. haha.
