Blown away...

I didn't get to bed last night until 2 am and it wasn't because I was partying. I didn't even have a beer last night. It was midnight by the time we got back from the movie and by the time we relaxed it was 2 am. I was shocked because I wanted to get to bed early so I could get my run in before Alice woke up. I also wanted to spend quite time drinking a coffee with everyone a sleep.

I turned out that I got up at 7:30 am anyway with only 5 hours sleep. I opened my eyes and saw the clock was 7:30 am and I felt semi tired but knew that if I went back to sleep I wouldn't get up until 10 am and by the time I warmed up and finished the run it would be 1 pm and the day would be half over. So I got up, had some coffee and toast and went for a run. The winds were 50 kph and for the first half of the run I was going directly into the wind. At one point going up a slight hill a gust of wind stopped me in my tracks and stood me right up. Before I got out of our development I saw a trampoline upside down on the front yard of a house. It was so windy last night that it was blown from the back yard, over the fence and into the front yard. I also saw a tree at least 18" in diameter that the wind broke in half.

I knew I was going to have a good run because my standing heart rate was 53 bpm before I left the house. Even running into a head wind and going up the hills on No 1 side road not once did I have to walk to keep it under 140 bpm. I over ran for the first half by 10 minutes because I knew that it would be a big negative split on the way home with the wind at my back and going down hill. For the first half of the run I averaged an 8:49 pace and for the entire run I was able to bring it down to a 8:11 pace which means I ran the last half at a 7:27 pace. It was harder keeping the heart rate in the zone on the way back with the wind at my back and going downhill. My fastest speed on one downhill was a 5:37 pace. I was pretty tired on the run and a few times closed my eyes when I ran. I love running with my eyes closed it's a great sensation. By the time I got back I felt pretty good and not as tired but I'll probably have a nap sometime today.

For the rest of the day we go to Reid's bronze medal playoff game, grocery shop and picking up a safety light for my bike at Mountain Equipment Co-op. My picture of the day is Reid's building plans for all the stuff he is building. I hope life never beats out his creativity.

Long Run - 1:22:57 / 10.12 miles / 8:11 pace
