I went to the Y at noon yesterday to do my weight training. I'm now starting 15 rep sets from 12. It's amazing how those extra 3 reps make a difference. I don't like to spend a lot of time in between sets, as I can't sit still, so I try to alternate exercises. If I'm doing a leg exercise, instead of waiting, I'll alternate with an upper body exercise. It helps speed up the time I need to spend in the gym and boy do I work up a sweat. Most people wipe down the equipment out of courtesy, but I need to wipe it down because it is full of sweat.
After dinner I just got out of the house for my tempo bike ride with enough time to get back before dusk. I lost my red high powered blinking light that I put on the back of my jersey which makes me nervous. I always feel safer with it on. I notice that when I have it on that cars give me more space to ride, it's like they recognize I care about my safety and they respect that as well. I ended up having the best ride of the year. It wasn't an easy ride but I was able to average 32.4 kph and my legs felt much stronger than a week ago. In many cases I was able to keep it in the big front ring when I was going up hills. Three weeks ago there was no chance I could do that. For the first time I've had two great back to back workouts. Yesterday was my best run of the year and today was the best bike of the year. For the first time this year I used my racing helmet and maybe that helped physiologically. I was also sweating like a mad man.
