What a difference a day can make...

Yesterday I ran an 8:37 mile at under 134 bpm and today I did my tempo run at a 7:20 pace at under 140 bpm. For the first half of the run no matter how much effort I put out my heart rate would not go over 140. I did the first half at a 7:17 pace. From yesterday that's 1:17 per mile faster. Yesterday I thought I was going backwards and lost my speed and then today I have the fastest tempo run of the year.

I came home from work early, I wasn't being productive and I was tired. Rather than just put in time I figured it would be best to recharge the batteries. For the past few days I haven't had much of an appetite which I guess is not all that bad. I weighted in today a 185 lbs which is my heaviest in a long time. It's strange that after 697 miles of training last month I put on a few pounds. Last year I was around 179 lbs. I was thinking that if I tempered my eating and drinking and got down to 170 lbs I'd fly on the run. I was going to swim but after a long nap I woke up too late to run and make it to the pool, so I just ran. I don't feel too guilty because no matter how much I swim I never seem to get faster.

I'm also trying to reduce the amount of time I spend online. I find all I'm doing is checking email, iPhone, blogging, twittering, linkedin, face book and trying to learn software. It's computer overload.

Tempo Run - 45:06 / 6.15 miles / 7:20 pace
