It was a 666 day...

What can I say, I'm sick of this flu. I've had it now near a week and it gets better, then gets worse, and the process repeats all over again. This morning I felt good, went to work and by 1 pm was sick again. I went home, laid down on the couch and fell asleep for a couple hours. I felt a little better when I woke up but not by much.

I had a scheduled hair cut at 4:40 pm that I couldn't miss. I wanted to look all "purdah" and stuff for Clearwater. Carman, my high priced and supposedly the best hair guy in Burlington, was backed up when I got there and I had to wait close to 40 minutes. I felt so weak and as I sat there and had myself convinced to miss tonight's tempo run. I didn't feel guilty about it one bit, my body was toast and I had no choice. I already had it all figured out in my mind how I could make up for it on Sunday if I started feeling better.

Carmen asked me what level I wanted the shaver on, and before I could think, he said lets try 1 1/2 and next thing I saw was the side of my skull. It was as short as you could go without using a straight razor. I said "Carmen, holy S*#T, what the F##k? that's way to short"!!! He said don't worry, it just looks that way because the top is long, as he was chuckling. At that point I said to him "either way I guess it doesn't matter now, what's done is done".

I don't mind real short hair, especially in the summer. But winter? Plus I have clients I need to meet on Monday, their going to think I quit my job and joined the Marines. Their not going to know if they should shake my hand, or salute me. Oh well, what can you do. On the bright side, I'm aero dynamic and lighter for next weeks race. As I paid the outrageous $30 for a bean shave, I left and told Carmen "I'll see him next year, when my hair grows out". He laughed. I wasn't kidding, it will probably take until February until I need another hair cut. At least this year I'll have extra beer money around Christmas time.

Reid's week long birthday celebration started tonight. His real birthday is next Sunday, November 15th, but because we are going to Clearwater, Alice wanted to take him out for dinner and give him his presents tonight. I love birthdays and Christmas because when the kids open their presents I'm as curious as they are to see what's inside. Alice makes me look good. Of course, when the kids thank me, I say "glad you liked it, I thought you might like that".

Reid is a cheap date. When we asked where he wanted to go for dinner, he said he didn't want to go out, he wanted us to pick him up a McDonalds Big Mac. Done. That was easy. Reid hates two things, the first is triathlons, and the second is going out for dinner. Next week, Clearwater is going to be hell for him, it will be a double whammy, a triathlon and eating out every day. Alice and I ended up going out for dinner to Mr. Greek and I had the lamb. I rarely eat lamb, but when I looked at the menu, my body signalled me that it wanted it.

When I got home I was feeling much better. I rested 30 minutes and at a moments notice decided to go for my run. I had a great run with one slight problem. I was smart enough to put on two heart rate monitors, in case one didn't work, but 3 minutes into the run I had to stop to adjust a podcast on my iPhone and I forgot to hit the restart button on the Garmin.

I was running great and kept seeing my average pace stay at a steady 7:23 per mile. It was good, but I was a little frustrated because I could have sworn I was going faster. Not until the turnaround point, did I notice I forgot to restart the watch. Man was I pissed off. I scrambled and figured out a way I could get the exact mileage by recording my distance from the turnaround. Unfortunately I would never know what my average pace was, so I went with the last half pace as my overall run average pace. In reality I know it was faster. Oh well, live and learn. On a positive note, until the last mile, until I thought about it, I didn't realize I was sick.

Also, I don't think I'll eat lamb again for a while. By nature lamb is a gamey meat, but when you run right after eating and it you start burping it up, it's not pleasant. I still have major stomach rumbling issues. Today is a 666 day. It's my 666 blog post and when I filled up my gas tank today it cost me $66.60. And I got a devil of a haircut and upset stomach.

Tempo Run - 1:00:00 / 7:75 mile / 7:44 pace / avg hr 141

If you do this more than twice a month, you may have a drinking problem.

I have heard from friends who have had the flu recently, just as you described - feel a little better and then WHAM!

I got my H1N1 shot on Thursday - there is no way that I want to be that sick.

Rest up and get lots of fluids!
