All night, I woke up on the hour, every hour, and started feeling sicker and sicker. When I finally woke up this morning, my body felt like a truck hit me and my head felt like a major hangover. The worst part is my sore eyes. When I move them from side to side they hurt. I was actually thinking of going for a run, but with all the twitter support and everyone telling me to relax, I decided to take everyones advice and rest.
I'm actually not discouraged. I'd much rather be sick 12 days before the race, at least there is time to fully recover and rest doesn't hurt. Even if I did nothing, I wouldn't loose too much fitness. I also think it is just what the doctor ordered, I've been feeling weaker than normal for the past 4 -5 weeks and probably should have been taking some time off anyways. My problem is that I just enjoy training so much and don't want to lose my fitness. I hate the pain of having to start all over.
For the entire morning and afternoon, I've been relaxing on my bed and decided to put together a Mantracker Audition Video for John Barclay and I. Unfortunately I filmed it without enough light and couldn't put an effect on the green screen, but other than that, I think the content is pretty good. I'd love to get picked to do that show. I included it below.
I weighted myself today, 184.2 lbs and 21% BMI. I wasn't discouraged because my BMI is down from 23% and I'm pretty sure I'm retaining water from yesterdays ride and being sick. I could tell I have a lot of salt in my system, I wiped my eyes and my tears were very salty. The rest of the afternoon I'll spend completing the application, watching NYC Marathon and hopefully Minnesota beating Green Bay. Go Farvre.

Hang in there. Coldfx and zinc lozenges help me when I'm sick. Take care
Thanks Bob. I read your mind, I started with the Coldfx this am. Thanks again.
Get better soon!
Thanks Eme.
You're doing the right thing. Don't try to train thru the flu, just ride it out. Lots of rest, sleep, and take care. You'll be back soon, and won't lose too much fitness (if any at all).
Go mantracker! Take advantage of the forced rest and dont try and get out before you are healthy! Get better and rest! You will be healthy in no time! Cheers
A traditional recipe in Romania to fight the cold is to drink a big glass of mulled wine just before going to bed. It always worked well for me, plus is the best tasting medicine to fight the cold :-).
If you Google "mulled wine" you'll find plenty of recipes. I found the one that I use
here.
Just hang in there, get some rest and you'll be much better soon.
Mantracker idea: Wear one of those bike helmet mirrors that allow you to keep an eye on what's going on behind you. He's a sneaky bugger... Hope things clear up for you quickly. Cheers.
Doru, that looks powerful. I'd try it, but I'm off the booze for a while. damn. Next time for sure. Although I am feeling much better today.
Mike, Thank. Also, the mirror's a great idea. If we get on, I'm going to use it.
