After a 16 year layoff from Triathlons, in 2007 at 41 yrs old, I got back into shape and lost 50lbs. In 2009 qualified for Clearwater, 2010 qualified for Kona, 2011 ITU World Championships & Mark Allen Elite Team. In Dec 2012 I was hospitalized for blood clots. In 2014 I did my 12th and final Ironman and decided to pursue every dream and do nothing I don't want to do.

Shot to the berries huh? LMFAO
Great post race report. Can't imagine how high you are right now. Good job.
Sounds like you had the perfect ironman experience. Congratulation!

Congrats Big Time!!!
Great report. It has been amazing for me watching you chase down this goal since January. YOU DID IT! You raced Fu#cking KONA! You set a BHAG and you pushed all year to get it. You have pushed me harder this year. For the first time in my life I set my own personal BHAG's and because of you I have a different vision of what I want to do over the next two years.
I am super grateful for this blog and your story. You have a great F#cking story!!!!
Interesting regarding your mental and psychological games you played on the course visualizing bloggers and such. I had the same exact experience when I did that first HIM back in July...it was really cool I can only imagine what it was like for you at the WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS!!!!

There are times when smiles and tears come to one's face simultaneously. Today was that day. When I came across @knutcracker on the Internet and he gave a moneyback guarantee to kick anyone in the balls, anywhere, anyplace, anytime I just didn't believe it. But by golly the guy's a genius I may just send him a bonus.
On a more serious note, I was tracking you all day, I couldn't take my eyes off the computer, nearly had a divorce over missing lunch (but you were due to finish any minute, hurry up next time will ya?). Bloody brilliant mate.
I was really hoping to catch you on the phone but never mind, you'd got more important things to do, DRINK BEER, I approve!
Really looking forward to IMLP next year, clearly it's gonna be a hoot.
I think I speak for everyone when I say how proud we all of you, not only in achieving the ultimate goal but in the spirit that you demonstrated in getting there and the spirit that you embraced the day.
Any man that trained in minus 17Celcius, consistently did 7 hour rides on a trainer and broke every nutritional rule in the book (usually several times a day) deserved to be at Kona and deserved to have a good day. BRAVO! Big respect.
What Simon said.. yes he can speak for me. And thank you for the bathroom video.
Bryan..."The power of imagination makes us infinite. – John Muir"...well managed again!
You are inspiring me...why not IM some day...next challenge for me is 70.3!
Cheers from Hong Kong!
"XTB"Xavi.
Bryan ~ You rocked it!
How awesome it has been to follow your journey over the past few months and see you accomplish it in true Training Payne Style.
Tracked you the whole way. Great job!
Way to fight the through the mental bullshit. It can get so deep, but you destroyed it.
Congratulations!
Scott C.
Congrats on a great race Bryan! I really enjoyed following your training and race.
Thanks for the great and prompt race report. But seriously, you could have finished up on the can before recording the video! :) haha
Way to go Bry! I stayed up late to watch you cross the line, I was laughing for a while when I saw the beer come out!
I snapped live screen shots of you and tweeted it...too funny.
Classic!
Great job.
Good work Bryan. Stayed up as well to watch the coverage. In true training payne fashion you knocked out another awesome ironman, followed up with some nice recovery methods.
Congrats again.
Brent
You are the fucking dude!!!!!!!! Awesome blog, awesome race and inspirational effort! Congratulations!
Dude GREAT JOB! I am very inspired by you. I am racing my first Ironman on Nov. 13th and I must say I have got so much strength and inspiration over the last eight months because of your blog. I hope I make it. If I do, know that you had a part in it. Here is to you!
Yur a homo unless you drink 24 beers by 8:00.
I followed you online and watched you cross the line. Amazing accomplishment and the best finish of the day.
Even the announcers were a little stunned and I remember one saying something like "Is that a beer in his hand?"
Congrats and I can't wait to race with you in 2011!
Captain!!!!
I am sooo glad that I saw you running down Palani! You looked great, and sooo sooo happy (as we all were to run down that hill). I'm terribly proud to know you and I think you did a great job with your race. Way to ham it up at the finish. Good on ya!
Congratulations on a great race! Can't wait to read all the details in the next post!
Congrats again Bryan, have said it a few times but are so stoked. You did awesome and made us all proud.
Well done my friend
Johan
Woohooo!
So awesome that you had a fantastic race!
Huge congrats.
I want to see a comparison of your first Kona finish picture next to this one. All the years and beers, and what an accomplishment! P.S. Find Mark Allen, for that finishers beer he promised. CHEERS to You.
CONGRATULATIONS!!! You rock. Who is going to play you in the "Training Payne" movie? (suggested title: "The Captain Goes to Kona")
Giving well wishes to everyone really helps with energy transfer. It comes right back to you. I always say good job to others and I always thank the volunteers that block the road. They always look confused because most triathletes just sluff them off. They seem to really appreciate it though.
#1: You should try and sign up a toilet/plumbing/bathtub manufacturing sponsor. You own the Post Race Potty Report!
#2: A fake beer at the finish line? Are you kidding me? Classic...
#3: The last time my bride and I were still awake at 12:30am in bed together was 2002. Watched you come across LIVE! Great finishing shot I'm sure!
#4: What's it feel like knowing that you're one of the fastest M45-49 ON THE PLANET!!!!
Hope you and the family enjoy the rest of your time in Hawaii. Let it all sink in. Congrats Payner. Wow... just wow...
it's beer time, it's beer time!!!.. ha ha ha...
well done Bryan, it was cool to follow your whole week in Kona, and you look great in you race report compared to IMSG
Congrats B!!! We followed you all day yesterday....yeah the first time Matt didn't get yelled at for being on the computer ALL day, 'cuz I was glued to it too! It was so exciting to see where you were at in the race. The tracker worked really good on our end...the only thing that was messed up was the elevation tracker.
Seriously though, you are truly an inspiration and deserved every bit of yesterday! I hope you cherish the memories forever! Congrats B and enjoy the rest of your vacation!!!
Captain, Mission accomplished. These past two years were the years of your life, I can honestly say that you will most likely NOT be able to top them.
You had a great race man. I could tell you were hurting a bit based on your splits but in all honesty it was 121 degrees F on the pavement... OUCH!
Simon, your comment had me in tears, not kidding, bloody brilliant hiring that guy to kick B in the nuts. Glad he did it in the beginning too because then he could feel that all day. My hat is off to you Simon. Do you need me to pay for half of the dudes fee?!
Honestly Heather and I watched ALL DAY Bryan. We wasted an entire day of our lives on YOU. I hope you are happy. Your finish was perfect. You are a true ironman and definitely and inspiration. Now I think you can take about 6 months off huh?
Also, I am glad you apologized to Alice. You are an asshole. I don't think you can apologize enough to make up for it. She is a saint and you owe her huge. That being said, I think that it is no longer about the Captain, and it is now about the family. Enjoy the rest of your days out there. Have some fun trips with Reid and Alice and take the stick out of your ass already will you?! You are acting like a pre-madonna!
Great race report. Glad you pulled from your blog as we have all pulled from you.
Oh yeah, tell Hans, your massage therapist, to stop sticking it in your butt when you go for the "extra deep" sessions. Obviously it affects your performance.
Congratulations again, you have no idea how happy we are for you.
Sucks to get kicked in the nuts!! Holy cow, I never heard of that!!
I watched you from when I got home until 11ish, you were so close to finish. I was having a blast on Twitter, I think I almost had you trending. ha ha
Good apology to Alice, sounds like she deserves it! :) Hope I get to meet you guys at IMLP.
Great video!! You rock man, I can't believe how awesome you are, you have the greatest story and are such an inspiration!!!!
Great finish last night! Just started my journey (44 year old fat guy). Finished a sprint tri today and not in last place. You motivate us as much as we motivate you. You inspire me to do more and go faster! Great work this week. Enjoy it!!!!
Way to go Bryan - I love the video. You are so inspirational. I did my first half iron this fall, as you know, and I have been spending a month picking it apart. I look at your training and attitude and know that I can get there too.
I am lucky to train with my husband. We met marathon training and at 48 and 50 respectively, I can't imagine being sedentary or inactive - that you lost 50 lbs and got to Kona makes us both think we can shoot for the moon too.
Hope to meet you on the roads some day
With kindest regards
Jane
Great Race. Loved tracking you all day like a stalker. Can't comment on the post yet, still waiting for it to load. I hope to be in your shoes one day.
You did it B! Miha and I saw you at the finish line and both agreed that you must have had a great race because you looked in great shape and very cheerful. Most of the other finishers were wobbling over the finish line.
Congrats again for a great race!
Incredible Bryan! My wife and I were tracking you all day too. You did awesome!
On reflection, you only apologised to Alice for last week!!!!! ARE YOU FERKIN KIDDIN ME? What about the last 22 years???? She's a Saint or just a glutton for punishment.
Matty-O, sorry dude, no you can't contribute to the @knutcracker - I did send him a bonus too. That was solely my gift to Bryan but he's available for the same venue next year so you can line him up for me and Bryan then if you like. Hahaha
Congrats!!!!
Nice job with the race! That Amstel is well deserved.
Bryan I just started following you on Saturday. I picked up your blog from a friend who is battling Leukemia (also a tri athelete). I was reading his blog update for the day and found your story. I have to say I started tracking you at about 9 hours in and kept track of you up until about 11:15 when my husband and his friend returned from a concert (bad timing). Totally missed you coming across the finish line:( I was so happy to see the video of it on your blog. Loved the beer at the end! Great way to finish. The "Post Potty" recap was awesome as well. I can't say I have ever seen someone recap in that way. It was cool to hear what was going through your head during the whole race. You are definitely inspiring! Thank you for sharing the journey.
Hi Pam,
If your friend has a public blog maybe you want to share it with us. I've always believed in the "collective consciousness" and the power that each of our thoughts has over a given situation.
By the way, the "Post Potty" race report is a Training Payne exclusive. Knowing Bryan, he’ll trademark it soon and ask for royalties. Ha-ha. Here is how it all started: trainingpayne.blogspot.com/2010/05/ironman-st-george-race-report-vlog.html . History in the making!.
Best of luck to your friend,
Doru
Congratulations! I love the blog (it is an inspiration), but have to ask - why does it seem that all your race report videos are shot in a hotel bathroom?
Doru,
I totally hear you about the "collective consciousness" and he could use a lot of it right about now. He does have a public blog. It started out as a blog about his journey training for tri's and half an ironman but now has turned into a blog about his special "ironman". A journey to a bone marrow transplant hopefully in November. Here is the public blog site http://chuckbuxton.blogspot.com/. He has actually posted a congrats to Bryan on this site (Chad Davis) and wrote about Bryan's inspiration his own blog.
Thank you for your interest in a fellow tri athelete.
Pam
G, hahaha, thought you might like that one. Thanks for the props.
C, thanks, it was great.
D, Thanks man. Yeah it's been a wild ride, who would have thunk. If I can do it, you can do it, I know it. Thanks for all your comments and support, YOU'VE added to my year big time and i love watching you're progress. Keep up the great work.
S, hahaha, @knutcracker, I love it. haha.
Thanks for the follow, I could feel it and it helped push and keep my day awesome. Also, thanks for the phone call, it meant a lot to me. Unfortunately I didn't have it on with the crazy high cell phone rates that Canadians get blasted with. I did get it and listened to it a few times. It was touching.
I'm also pumped about IMLP next year. Don't leave the next day ofter to Texas, give yourself some hangover recovery time. haha.
Thanks again for the props and when you put it into the -17 C and 7 hour training rides, I never thought of it that way and you're right, I deserved to be there. Big time. haha. Thanks again.
A, haha, I thought you'd like that one.
X, thanks bro. Good luck with the 70.3, you'll kill it and want Ironman next.
S, thanks man. It was a good day, I made sure of it. Mind over matter. Thanks again for the props.
IBT, thanks. haha, I wasn't using the can (this time). The post Ironman "CAN" video's are another one of my trade marks since seriously having to use the can after IMSG. haha.
T, thanks and glad you got a good laugh. Thanks also for the tweets, awesome.
B, thanks bro. It was fun and why let it stop.
J, thanks brother.
D, thanks and very cool, make sure you give me your race number, I want to track you and send you some good vibes. You'll make it, don't worry. Don't quit and if they try to take you off the course, fight em. Thanks again.
J, hahaha, truer words were never spoken. haha.
R, thanks my man. Yah, I saw the video after and they were laughing at the "fake beer". haha. Ditto, can hardly wait until IMLP and those long training rides. haha.
S, thanks, if I looked great, you looked fantastic. I actually thought you didn't race you looked so good. Thanks again.
A, Thanks.
J, thanks my brother from another mother, it was fun and I can hardly wait until we do a race and post race celebration together.
C, thanks.
S, thats a good Idea, I'll post them in an upcoming post. Thanks for the props.
L, thanks. I was thinking "Brad Pitt" since we look so similar. hahaha. Thanks again and when are you coming back to "The Captain's Quarters?"
D, so true.
M, hahaha, no kidding, sponsored by "beer and plumbing supplies". haha. Holy Crap, I want to know what kept you up until 12:30 am in 2002. haha. Last time I stayed up past 12:30 am, it was yesterday. haha.
It is really cool knowing you went to Kona and finished strong, I'm not going to lie.
Thanks again for all the support and props M, it really helped on my journey this year.
V, yup, those were the words I was yelling as I was running down the finish line chute. haha. Yeah, I felt much better than IMSG, it was a great day. Thanks for the props man.
H, thanks and congrats to you for putting up with Matty. I don't know which of us has accomplished more. haha. Oh, and please wish M a Happy Birthday from me, I know he doesn't bragging about his Birthday and getting stuff. hahahahaha.
Thanks for the support and well wishes, I definitely felt it the entire way. The Karmic gods were shinning.
M, you are WRONG, and have a bad attittude. I'm DEFINITELY going to top this year. Either you're growing or your dying.
Yeah it was hot, at least it was a dryer heat which made it a little easier.
Glad to hear I wasted one of your days, I know how much you enjoy "building things with Lego" in your spare time. hahaha.
All kidding aside, thanks for the major props and support from you and H. I really aprechiate it and I'm a better person for having you guys in my life. (Now that's the end of the sappy stuff).
Ditto on Alice, me being an A-hole and it's all about family. I don't agree with the pre-madonna, I haven't yet mastered that one, but I'm working on it. hahaha.
I actually agree with you on the massage therapist, I think she did go to deep or I went to often. All I know is my A$$ still hurts. I know your used to it from years of "pounding", er, I mean "training", but it's not something I'm familiar with. hahaha.
Thanks again for the props.
M, how would you know it sucks to get kicked in the nuts???? hahahaha.
Thanks for the props and I felt all your well wishes as I was race, it was fabulous. I too can hardly wait to hook up at IMLP and the post race party should be major fun.
J, thanks. Keep it up J, you can do it. I can hardly wait for you to be joining the PFG tri club.
J, thanks. You can definitely get there, keep on trucking. Great to hear you got a built in training partner, that' definitely a benefit. Love to meet you too.
L, haha, loved being stalked. Just train HARD and eat and drink like a sailor and you can do it too. hahaha.
D, thanks brother. You were right, I did feel GREAT!!!. Thanks again for all your well wishes and support, they always mean a lot to me. I'm glad you found me.
J, thanks man. I could feel the vibe.
S, Okay, I'll apologize to Alice, but you have to promise me you'll apologize to your mom for having you. hahaha.
I will say, i hope the tip you sent was "big" because he deserved it. He did good. hahaha.
BDD, thanks
S, thanks man.
P, thanks for the follow and thanks for the props. Thanks for posting the blog of Chucks
D, thanks for passing on the explaination.haha
B, thanks. It started when I had tummy troubles from IMSG and was in the porta potties on the last half of the run at every mile and when I got back to the hotel the only safe place I could do the post race video was from "the throne", the rest is history. haha.
P, thanks for sharing.
