I was going to run today, but decided to give my foot more rest and try to run on Monday. Hopefully taking 9 days off of no land running will have helped.
It was finally warm out today, 22 C. My plan since yesterday was to get up early and cook ribs. I've been watching guys on YouTube barbecue ribs on coals that take up to 6 hours and wanted to try it myself.
I went to the barbecue store and picked up wood chips, rub, sauce and briquette trays. I then went to two different butchers to find the perfect side back and baby back ribs. When I got home I prepared the meat, after re-watching the YouTube video, and had everything on the barbecue an hour later.
Jamie Grant, a fellow Ironman who lives around the corner, came over and we drank beers and smoked cigars as I barbecued.
It took over 4 hours and I must say they looked and tasted good. The family didn't really like them because they were to spicy and hickory flavored, but I liked them. I had the neighbors taste them and I got thumbs up with recommendations. Which means they were okay but not great. I figure with some adjustments I can make them great.
Alice and I sat outside all day and all night. Our neighbors John and Lisa came over and we sat around the fire until the wee hours of the morning. I was beer'd out and Alice even ran out of rum.
