I didn't get off the couch until 4 pm and the only reason was because I needed to get my speed swim workout in before the pool closed at 5:45 pm. I had a really good swim, for some reason I had a great feel for the water. I did 5 x 100 meters, after doing 2500 meters, and the slowest was 1:41 and the last and fastest was 1:39. It was the only swim workout that I can remember sweating for about 10 minutes after I got out of the pool.
When I got home, Alice and I quickly went for dinner. I had to get on the bike before 7 pm in order to avoid riding in the dark. Before I left on my ride I decided to put 700 new songs on my iPhone, I was getting sick of the ones I currently have on it, there is only 186 songs and I kept hearing the same ones over and over. Putting the new songs on the phone took me an extra 30 minutes, which meant I had no choice but to finish my ride in the dark.
It was a tempo ride and it wasn't hard for me to get my heart rate up after the effect last nights festivities had on my body. However, it was worth putting the new songs on the iPhone, it made the ride so much more enjoyable. For the last 15 minutes of the session I was riding in the dark.
I was a little nervous because once it gets dark, the animals start coming out of the woods. Sure enough, as I was riding, a raccoon came out of the woods and ran across the road in front of me. I also had a huge German Sheppard come running directly at me. I was scared and as I stopped and yelled at the dog, it became started and scared and took off. I realized that he was a friendly dog who was just coming to say hi.
For the last 15 minutes of the ride, I rode defensively all the way home. I did have a red light on my back so I wasn't concerned that cars wouldn't see me when they passed from behind. On coming traffic was the challenge. Their lights were so bright it would blind me and I couldn't see the road until they passed by. Doing 50 kph downhill and being blinded by a car with it's high beams on was a little freaky.
It felt good when to get home "safe and sound".
