They put radioactive dye in my arm and then I had to leave for a couple of hours to allow the dye to go through my entire body before they could do the scan. The dye helps them see the bone activity. Only a bone scan can definitely tell if I have a stress fracture, X-rays and MRI's are not near as reliable.
The hardest part of the process was keeping my legs from moving while they scanned and took pictures of my feet. One scan alone took over 10 minutes. Even though they strapped my legs and feet together, I had to do everything in my power to keep my legs and feet from moving. It was a real mental challenge.
After the bone scan I was off to the dentist to have him look at my gum infection. Since I had a root canal and crown put on it in January, it has been infected. He's put me on different antibiotics and nothing seems to work. Today they froze the area and did a deep cleaning and used some sort of antibiotic cleanser. I hope it works this time, although I jokingly told the dentist that "I'll see you next week".
Every moment I get I'm icing my heel. I'm not taking Advil because I read that Advil can actually prevent a stress fracture from healing. With no training tonight I had some free time and went to Canadian Tire to buy a life jacket for water running. I've never water run but I'm going to try it tomorrow. I'm not going to give up on the running without a fight.
The rest of the evening was spent watching TV and surfing the net. I watched the reality show "the cake shop". It's about an Italian family that make incredible custom cakes. I got a craving for cake after watching the show and I ended up driving to the local supermarket and picking up a cake and ice cream.
I spent a lot of time looking at the cakes while my mouth watered. I'm sure the people around me must of thought I was the most fussy customer. I lifted each cake, looked at it from all angles and read all the labels, it probably took me 15 minutes to find the right cake. I made my final decision based on the least amount of calories and the lowest price. I knew I'd only eat one or two pieces and then throw the rest away.
The cake ended up looking good but not tasting too good, which was actually a good thing because I ended up not eating to much of it. Although I went back for thirds on the ice cream.
