This morning I felt a whole lot better mentally. My plan was to take today off as part of the taper. I was working all day on my lap top and started to get the urge to get out for a ride around 4:30 pm. I couldn't fight it. I just needed to get outside and get some fresh air, and frankly, it doesn't feel natural if I don't train.
I needed to burn some of last nights calories off and make room for more. With the Sohor's flying in Thursday for Ironman Muskoka 70.3 it's going to be a bit of a calorie booze and eat fest. And when I say eat, I mean drink.
I know Rich is going to want to go through all of the four booze groups. For those non-alcoholics, the four booze groups are wine, beer, liquor and liqueur. I asked Rich what he wanted to do when he got here and all he wants to do is go to the over 30's singles night at club 54.
I told him Alice and I went there once, not knowing it was over 30's singles night and it was major trippy. Most of the guys tend to be fat and bald with the demeanor of serial killer Jeffery Dahmler. When I would leave the table to get more drinks or go to the washroom they'd be all over Alice.
When I went to the bar, the cougars would be all over me. Apparently I did have a good time, at least from what Alice told me. She said I was dancing in a cage with a half naked women. Sounds like fun, but I don't remember it. Anyways, when Rich heard about it, needless to say all he wants to do is go to Club 54.
Getting back to the present. I was thinking of doing a mountain bike ride around the neighborhood with Alice, but she had second thoughts, so I went for an hour on my tri-bike. My whole intent was to spin, take it super easy and have a nice enjoyable ride.
It was awesome!!! No pressure to go fast or keep the heart rate up. I just "smelt the roses". My heart rate was real low and it took a while for me to work up any sweat. To put my lack of effort in perspective, my heart rate only averaged 114 for the entire ride. Oh... it felt so beautiful, "like I died and went to heaven".

I think during intensive training its important to take a mental pause and "cheat". I'm not sure about mixing the four booze groups though. I've done that before and the hangover is horrible!
I'm with you Rob. Sohor likes working the booze groups. I stick with beer. If not, I become a wild man and end up on the floor running cirlces:-)
