Essentially, in the past 6 months, I've ridden my bike across North America. An Airline ticket would have been much faster, and much, much more cheaper, but not as satisfying.
For that reason, among others, it was definitely a memorable ride tonight. Before my ride, I was already feeling pretty good when I got home, especially after having a few pints with Johnny after work. Then I got to listen to an hour long interview with "the man" Dave Scott during the ride. I never tire of listening to Ironman legends. Their stories are amazing. I did find out that if Dave Scott is healthy, he plans on racing Ironman Kona this year, at 53 years old.
It was wild when he said that during the race that Mark Allen beat him, for the first time, Mark ran a 2:38 marathon and he was a 2:39. The reason most people don't know this is because in the old days they included the bike to run transition time in the marathon splits. The results showed it around 2:42, but the reality was that they were sub 2:40. Amazing!!!
During tonight's tempo ride everything felt good and with my new white shoes, I looked "marvelous". I can't tell you how natural my new seat and bike fit feel. It's great. I had one of my stronger rides, except the king hills were tougher than normal.
I think the new bike fit is causing me to use slightly different muscles to climb. My body needs to adjust. If it wasn't a blow to the ego, because of the low average speed, I'd do hills all day long. I'm starting to really enjoy hills. Eventually I'm going to tackle the Silverman Iron Distance Triathlon, with all its 3000 plus meters of climbing, but I need to make sure my ego can take it.
