Last day of R & R...

I can't sit still. Last night I took the plunge and signed up for Ironman China on March 14, 2010 and then I signed up for Ironman Syracuse 70.3 on September 19th, 2010.

Next Year is going to be a big training year. In addition to China, I'm signed up for Ironman Lake Placid. And hopefully I'll be good enough to qualify for Hawaii somewhere along the way. Potentially, I could be doing three full Ironman's next year, not including at least a couple of Half Ironman's.

I took one more day off from training and will be back at it tomorrow. I'm almost back to 100% physically and mentally. The only problem about taking time off work is trying to catch up. I think I finally got caught up. Now I'm focusing on getting everything ready for the beer run on Saturday. I'm going through my list and checking to see what I have and what John may need to pick up.

I'm looking forward to Saturday's race, we should have about the same amount of people as last year. The tee-shirts arrived today and they look great. I approved the artwork for the racing bibs, and they look cool. Now I'm just waiting for the award beer bottle labels and we'll be all set.

I attached this years invitation for the beer run and the rules. Mark at work did a good job. Anyone who reads my blog who is interested in joining us, let me know. The more the merrier.

Hi B
Good luck with IM China & Lake Placid. Think IM China is going to be Hot.
Enjoy the Beer run the weekend. The flyer looks really good and intimidating, wish I could participate, sounds like a lot of fun.
Maybe I need to arrange such an event here in South Africa
Cheers

The Beer Run sounds like my type of event. I'd love to participate, but hopefully next year. Now I am recovering after an accident on the bike leg at Muskoka. I managed to fell off the bike at 50 Km/h, just 2 Km before the finish line and I ended up in the hospital. The good thing is that nothing is broken and the bruises and scratches that I have should heal soon.

man, that doesn't sound good. I'm glad your alright. I may have seen you. Where you lying down with someone over you and a pillow or something under your head at the side of the road?

Yep, that was me, lying on the road and wondering what happened. Luckily, there were many nice people around who helped me until the ambulance arrived. After I spent 3 hours in the hospital and two doctors confirmed that nothing is broken I was so relieved that my mood changed 180 degrees and I suddenly felt very happy.
Lesson learned, next time I'll pay more attention to a sharp turn.

Man, I'm glad you were okay. When I saw you it didn't look good. It looked serious.

I'm just glad your okay. What happened?

I was coming downhill at about 50 Km/h and I started to slowly apply the breaks in order to take the sharp right turn on the Canal Road. There was some sand on the left side of the lane, which I did not see soon enough, and because I was applying the breaks my rear wheel started to skid on the sand. At that point I kind of lost control of the bike and I hit a signpost that was in the middle of the road, separating the lanes. I remember only seeing the front wheel flying away and people screaming "Oh my God, Oh my God". I was lying on the road on my back when someone came to me asking if I am OK. After I started checking all my body parts I realized that I was OK, except for my right arm, which hurt a lot. It turned out that the pain was because of a deep cut, but the bone was not broken. Now I feel well, except for a few sore body parts, but I am fully functional.

Wow. That's amazing that you weren't hurt. I've had close calls and know how scary it can be, but luckly I've never tumbled. I still can't believe it wasn't worse. I'm glad it wasn't.
