No garbage swimming...

I had a root canal this morning. It took just under two hours and I hate going to the dentist so it was tough to sit through. No matter how much freezing they give me it is never enough.

I did my training after dinner and went to the YMCA to do weights and then my long swim. I never look forward to my swimming and now that I'm focusing on technique, I really don't look forward to it. I've decided that for some reason my heart rate was never high in the pool which tells me I'm not doing something right because all the good swimmers I know say that their heart rate goes through the roof when they swim. So I've decided to work on really long strokes and only doing 19 strokes per 25 meters. It is pretty tough. I find myself losing my breath and have to breath more regularly even though I'm doing less strokes. The amazing thing is that with less strokes I'm going faster. For the first 100 I did, I did a 1:39 and it felt effortless. The last 100 I did was 1:47 which is still good considering I race at around 1:57 - 2:00. I ended up doing 2000 meters total.

I was originally only going to focus on getting faster on the run by improving my technique and was going to focus on swimming the year following, but now I figure if I'm going to swim I may as well try to do it right. I was learning how to use my new scanner and found this picture of me when I was in my early 20's competing in the Falcon Lake Olympic Distance Triathlon.

That is more than a speedo. Those are Tinley wear by Scott Tinley. At the time he was the leader in great looking sports wear. Those have a pad in the groin for riding a bike. I think I still have those. If I do, I should embarrass you and wear them on our next long run.
