Wet and Stinky...

It has been hot outside and I love it. I had a run today and my shoes were still sweaty-wet from yesterdays run. They smell pretty bad as well, kind of peppery.

Today I went for my run during mid-afternoon. It was 41 C / 105 F. I must be getting acclimatized because my pace was decent and I didn't stop once. Although, after 10 km's I just wanted to walk. I didn't stop and it wasn't mentally easy to persevere.

When I got home, I was craving a Slurpee. I towelled off and picked one up. It went down so fast that I went back and got two more. By the time I drank all three, I was shivering. I had to go outside to warm up and then fell asleep on the sofa with two blankets on.

In just two days, I can feel myself dropping weight. I haven't jumped on the scale, but I can see my love handles reducing in size. I think training in the hot weather is helping to "melt" away the fat.

I've had lots of comments on the blog lately about qualifying for Kona at Lake Placid. That's not a goal and highly unlikely. I had my chance in China and almost unexpectedly did it in Utah.

The reason I don't think I'll have a chance to qualify is because I haven't been able to follow a consistent 12 plus week program and can't see myself peaking properly. I've had to break the programs up with post Ironman race recovery periods. Hindsight being 20/20, I would have foregone China and peaked for Utah or Lake Placid.

My only reason for dropping the beer consumption is to get the weight down, not to qualify for Kona. If I do qualify, it will purely be an act of God. I'm cool with not qualifying, everything happens for a reason.

Next year I'm going to be smarter with my training. I'm going to take a proper recovery period and I'm going to train for one key Ironman race. For that Ironman, I plan to show up after a consistent training program that will have me peaking at the right time. Like I did for China, sans food poisoning.

Changing subjects, I noticed a cork board that Reid is using for Goal setting. He has printed out pictures of things he wants. It includes money, an academy award for directing, iPod, cars and an old school banana seat bike. I found it interesting that he did this, I've never taught him this technique. He came up with it himself and has it behind his computer so he can look at it everyday.

Interesting that there is no picture of swimming, triathlons, or his dad... just saying!

Haha all kidding aside. Great goal setting on your behalf. Enjoy Lake Placid and if it happens, it happens. Do not pressure yourself.

Love the heat, did a 30 minute recovery run yesterday in the heat and despite my migraine, was loving breathing in the heat.

Keep it up B. Get that speed work in, I am rooting for the surprise qualifying letter after your race... peak training period or not, you can pull it off.

good on you for not putting the Kona pressure on your race. You'll have a good time at IMLP doing what you like the most... and that's pretty admirable

M, I guess it's not on his to do list, although he does see my handsome mug everyday. haha. Thanks for the support, you never know, but not likely. I don't know why but that bike course owns me.

D, Thanks and yes, I'd like to see the Swimsuit cover. On a positive note, at least he doesn't have a chimpendales guy on there.

V, thanks bro.
