Since the Olympics started on August 8th, I've been having a really difficult time getting to bed early. I don't think I've had one night where I got to bed before 12:30 am. All I've been watching is the Olympics.
Today was a "speed work day", which is another word for it's going to "hurt day". I did 3500 meters in the pool after work and it took me just under 90 minutes. I actually felt pretty good, but I made sure I had something to eat before hand.
After dinner I did my speed bike workout, it ended up being just over 37 km and it took me 75 minutes. I had a couple of 9 minute intervals and I went extremely hard, actually I couldn't have went any harder. For most of the intervals my heart rate was around 160 bpm, which is high for me. Very rarely does it go higher with a full out effort, which I guess is a good thing, it means I'm in pretty good shape. My motto about speed work is "no pain, no gain".
I thought I'd take a picture of me just after I finished my final 9 minute interval, it gives an idea of how hard I go. I just go as hard as I can, like a "bull" and I end up looking like one. It's actually pretty gross, don't show it to any children and don't shake my hand after I do one of these speed work sessions.
