I woke up at 6:00 am, only had 6.5 hours of sleep, was tired, but left to the pool anyways.
Today was my long swim, 5 km. My pace was slow, I couldn't get my heart rate up, my arms, legs and core were so tired and weak. My average heart rate for the 2 hours was only 108 bpm. It was mentally tough, but I finished. I figured going slow was better than not doing anything and decided it was going to be a recovery swim, like walking.
After dinner I went for my 65 minute run. My average heart rate was 126 bpm and I ran 7.7 miles at an 8:22 pace. I was really pleased with the run, it felt effortless and was fast for such a slow heart rate.
I finished the run by 8:00 pm and then went to Reid's hockey tryouts. He is trying out for Rep. It was tough to watch, he is the weakest player on the ice, but I keep needing to remind myself that he wasn't able to skate 9 months ago. I'm really proud of his courage and determination.
I really think I screwed myself up by going so hard on the bike last Saturday. I can tell it is effecting my recovery and all I want to do is eat. I've realized that for the foreseeable future, unless it is a speed workout, I'm going to go easier.
I only have another 1 1/2 weeks of higher mileage and then for the following 2 weeks it gets easier, as I'll be tapering for the race.
Overall, I've really noticed my fitness increase in the last 3 weeks, since I started speed work.
