I got a good 8.5 hours of recovery sleep last night and didn't wake up as irritable. Still irritable, but just not as irritable as this past couple of weeks.
This evening was my bike speed work session, which lasted an hour. The main workout was a 20 minute time trial. I rode it hard into a 41 km head wind, with gusts up to 52 km.
During the ride, my legs felt like lead, although I pushed hard I just didn't seem to have a rhythm. My cardio must be getting better because I couldn't get the heart rate over 151 bpm. For the 20 minute ride into the head wind I rode between 27 - 33 km per hour.
On the way back, even with relaxed spinning, I flew! I was hitting speeds around 51 kph on slight declines. Overall I averaged 30.8 kph for the entire ride.
A fun part of the ride was that another cyclist came up behind me on my easy warm down and my competitive juices came over me, so I picked it up and eventually lost sight of him or her (I couldn't tell, I only saw their shadow). I'm not sure if I out rode them or they turned down another side road or if the shadow was mine.
It's amazing how another person (or perceived person) can push you to push harder!
