For some reason I woke up really tired this morning. I'm glad I didn't have a beer last night because I would have blamed it on the beer.
After work I did a 50 minute tempo run, which was not to exceed 139 bpm. Like most of my tempo runs I end up pushing it up to 140 - 144 bpm, as it's easy to get carried away when your going fairly fast.
Today's run was my fastest in years. I ended up doing a 7:28 mile for 7 miles. Even my fastest run, which was the race around the bay 30 km, I only averaged 7:43 and my heart rate got up to 180 bpm. This run I did a 7:28 and stayed aerobic, under 143 bpm, plus I have a sore chest. It was an amazing run.
To put it in perspective, at today's run pace it would have given me a 46:23 for 10 km or 1:37:52 for a half marathon and I was aerobic for the entire run. During the run I could still feel my quads were a little sore from the 1/2 Ironman. They still have not fully recovered.
Today was a breakthrough day.
P.S. I was reading about a bruised chest rib and it says recovery is around 4 - 6 weeks, just like my doctor told me.
