I thought yesterday was the worst of it and that today I'd be better and would start getting back into a routine. Wrong!!!
Today was the worst! I got a full blown flu, left work at 2pm and went home straight to bed. Except for getting up to go to the washroom and getting dinner to eat in bed, all I've been doing is sleeping and dozing in an out as I watch TV. When I cough there is a horsey congested sound coming from my chest. Not good...
I know this is going to sound bad, but I keep looking at the bike beside my bed when I come out of one of my slumbers and feel a little better, and wonder if doing 20 - 30 minutes of riding would be okay?
Then I snap myself back to reality and tell myself that I need to get back to 100% and that this time of year is the perfect time to be in a quasi training / resting mode, or to get sick, and that this is the off season, that not putting in the miles this month is not going to have any bearing on next years performance (at least that's what the latest issue of Triathlete Magazine says). Plus it does give my Achilles and knee some time to heal.
At least that's what the optimist inside of me is saying.
I also then remember what Mark Allen told me...that as long as you do not go more than 3 days in a row without training you will not loose any muscle or performance. So based on that theory, all I have to do is a run or bike tomorrow to maintain.
I'm hoping the worst is behind me. But then again, I thought that yesterday.
For now, all I can do is rest, watch TV and use my computer to update my blog.
