Last night my calf was sore. I iced it, massaged it, stretched it, put cream on it and took Advil for it. Then I got a good 8 hours of sleep.
In the morning it was a little better, but still tender. I was looking at it and realized that it was caused from falling off my bike during yesterdays ride. I could see the scrap marks right where the calf tightness was.
One thing that I did notice when I woke up was that my chest seems to be getting better. I'm not sure if falling off the bike knocked the rib back into place or if the creams and supplements I'm taking is helping.
I was up fairly early to coach Reid's hockey game, which we lost. I now have a perfect record of 0 and 4. I told Reid that I'm used to loosing in hockey, as every team I ever played for lost. Coaching isn't to bad except for one kid that has a real bad attitude and is very disrespectful. Of course it is the kid who's father I kicked off the bench. Today the kid told me to stop yelling so much from the bench.
After hockey and a trip to Rona, to replace our broken shower head, I ate lunch and fell asleep on the couch for 3 hours. My body was so tired and I had a great sleep with a movie and then golf playing in the background. I kept dreaming about drinking multiple glasses of ice water, weird.
At 4:00 pm I decided to go for my 2 hour run. I was worried that my calf wasn't going to hold up, so I told Alice to expect a phone call to pick me up if I have any calf problems, which I ended up not having. I was also pleasantly surprised how good my legs felt. Since returning from Florida my quads have been sore, but today they felt much better, even after 5 hours of bike riding yesterday.
The only thing I can attribute it to is the Hammer Recoverite drink I just bought. The owner of the bike store said it is amazing for recovery. He said that you can work out hard one day and be ready to go the next. He was right, this stuff works.
I ended up running just over 14 miles at an 8:33 pace. I ran my regular, very, very, hilly course. For the first 40 minutes of the run I felt slow and for the balance of the run I picked it up. I ran the last 7 miles 4 minutes faster than the first 7 miles.
I also was calculating my workout totals for last month. Considering I had 8 rest days for preparation and recovery of my half Ironman I think the numbers looked pretty good.
Calories burnt 45,081
Hours training 51.09
Swim 17.75 miles
Bike 526.92 miles
Run 94.35 miles
Total 639.02 miles.
