I woke up early and went to the YMCA to lift weights before work. It was good to lift again as I was starting to feel I was losing my upper body strength.
I had a lot to do at work today, but I also wanted to leave early so that I could start my 3 hour and 10 minute ride as early as possible. I didn't want to ride in the dark. I worked through lunch and got out of work just after 3 pm. By the time I got home, ate a bagel and got on the road it was 4:30 pm.
It turns out that I over estimated how far I was away from home and ended up biking for 3 hours and 24 minutes. It was pretty windy and my legs were flat, but I still managed to get in 101 kms at an average speed of 29.7 kph.
For at least the first half of the ride I was still ruminating about last weeks company party. I still feel very badly about my behaviour. I was doing a lot of "soul" searching during the ride.
About 3/4 of the way through the ride I really noticed my front wheel was out of alignment. It was moving from side to side, and truth be told, it was scaring me to ride, I almost called Alice to pick me up. I'm now thinking the wobbling of the front of the bike down a hill at 82 kph was not me being scared, but it was that the front wheel was not true.
With this new bike I have a love / hate relationship. I love it's fit and the fast times I've gotten on it, but I hate the mechanical issues. The bike just does NOT feel right. If I had an extra $2500, I'd put the Quintana Roo up for sale for $2000, and buy a Cervelo carbon bike for $4500.
Before I rode tonight, I had Alice put a flashing red light on the back of my jersey for safety. I just read about two cyclist that were killed in Winnipeg and I'm a little paranoid with all the riding I do. I figure it is better to be safe than sorry.
This month I set a record for the total amount of miles trained.
I ended up doing a total of 735.46 and I took 5 days off during the month for tapering and rest. I beat my previous best month by 50 miles and that month I didn't have one day off of training. I also burnt 53,000 calories for the month of June.
Total Swimming - 8.36 miles (low do to chest injury)
Total Biking - 599.16 miles
Total Running - 127.9
Total Beers - 169
