For the past week or more I've had poor sleeps. I've been waking up during the night and have been sweating all night long, even with no blankets on.
Last night I was so tired, I went to bed early. I woke up at 7 am and was going to get up but figured I'd just close my eyes for a moment or two. When I opened them up, it was 9:30 am on the "nose", and John was coming to my house to do a 1 hour 45 minute run at 9:30 am.
Needless to say I took off out of bed to get ready and within 1 minute of waking up, John had arrived. He was cool and I took a few more minutes to get ready and then we were on the road. It was a really nice day, sunny, no clouds and we ran a nice pace.
I find it interesting that when we run, we see a lot of cyclists go by, and every time we will wave or say high to them, but it never ceases to amaze me how rude many of them are, they don't even acknowledge your gesture. Now I'm having fun with it and if they don't respond, I call them an asshole just after they pass by.
We ended up covering over 11 miles and I got home just in the "nick" of time, as I needed a major bathroom break. I didn't even have time to really say good bye to John, but when you gotta go, you gotta go.
After sitting and reading running magazines on the deck with Alice for an hour or two, Reid and I decided to go to the Oakville YMCA. I needed to do my 3500 meter tempo swim and he was bored so he asked if he could join me.
This was an important swim for me. I only did 8 miles of swimming last month, due to my chest injury, and I should have done around 30 miles if I wasn't injured. Today I had to have a good workout, without chest pain, so that I could get back my swim gains I made over the winter and have a good swim during the Ironman.
The swim went well and I did a lot of intervals. I was doing kick only intervals on the board, when all of a sudden, Reid comes kicking up beside me and then past me on his own board. It was good and bad, I felt good for him and I was happy that he could go so fast, and I felt bad for me because he easily beat me after all the training I've put in.
He also raced me on some of my freestyle intervals, although he didn't beat me, we was surprisingly closer than I thought he would be. I keep telling him he should get into swimming, he does have a nice swim stroke, but he's not interested. Near the end of the swim, he was critiquing my stroke from his underwater vantage point and telling me what to do and I actually tried some of his suggestions.
Reid also is now really interested in me doing well at the Louisville Ironman. He wants me to go fast enough to qualify for the Hawaiian Ironman. It turns out that he is now into surfing and one of the best surf shops is in Hawaii and he wants to go there, so he figures if I can qualify for the Hawaiian Ironman, he can go to this legendary surf shop.
On the drive home from the pool I was pushing on my left chest and could feel a semi-sharp, and sore to the touch pain and I figured "oh great" the chest problem is back. Then I tried pushing on the right side and it felt the same thing as the left side, which meant I was just sore, but not injured. Hurray!
The video I posted above is of my wobbly tire, which almost killed me and I'm taking to get fixed tomorrow. Imagine going down a hill at 82 kph with this front tire!
