Usually I do weights in the morning, but today I wanted to sleep longer for better recovery and I figured I'd do them after my speed run later tonight.
After dinner, I headed down to the local school track to do my running speed work. It was HOT and HUMID, with the humidex it was 37 C. Once I started my speed work my heart rate monitor was at 192 bpm, then settled around 180 bpm. This was the first long speed work session that I'd done without John and it was hard. I've now realized that speed work running is always easier to do with a friend. During the run I went hard and near the end of the run the front of my quads were getting really sore. By the time I was finished, I was dripping wet, my shoes were wet and felt like I was running in the rain.
I put a towel on the seat of my truck and drove to the YMCA for my weight training session. It has been a couple weeks since I did weight training and I was looking forward to it. Today's session was a Power Phase, which means heavier weight to exhaustion. It was a good session and on the power squats, even after the run, I set a record for me and squatted 500 lbs. Not bad considering less than a year ago I started at 90 lbs. On the drive home from the YMCA, even though I put a towel on the seat, the seat was WET, big time.
I also picked up my bike after work from the bike shop. I took it in because the gears were still not working well. They are really trying to fix the problem and I appreciate their efforts. They showed me the P3C Cervelo and said it was the supreme triathlon bike and even let me take it for a test drive. Truth be told I liked the fit of my Quintana Roo better, although the Cervelo was not fitted to my body, so it might feel better if it was. The only problem is that they want $4700 for the Cervelo and I probably could only get $1700 for the Quintana Roo. I did see a similar Cervelo, 2 years old, on Ebay that is only at $1600 and only has one day left in the auction. If it stays that low, I'm going to bid on it and if I get it I'll sell the Roo.
