I had a lousy sleep last night. We went to the Canada Day fireworks show at Spenser Smith park and I think we got to bed too late.
Today I took my bike to New World Cycle. They took a look at it and noticed a few things wrong with it right off the bat. First the rear gear was slipping, then the front tire was out of true, then they found out the rear tire needs replacing because it is worn out, then they also discovered that the chain needs replacing because it is worn out, and then they found out that there could be bigger problems with the gearing because the chain doesn't go smoothly in reverse. I told them to check everything out, above and beyond. I'm sure this will be another $250 bill.
They also said that every bike has a speed that it hits and a wobble will start, and that each bike is different. For example at 72 kph my bike is fine, but once I go up to 73 kph, it starts to wobble. So I guess it wasn't me who was wobbling, but the bike.
I asked them how much would I get for my bike if I sold it? They figured about $1500. If I had $3000 of cash, I'd sell my bike and get a Cervelo P3C. I told them that it is not a matter of if I'll buy the Cervelo, it's just a matter of when. Then they showed my a pair of wheels that they said would add another 1.5 - 2 km per hour of speed to my racing times. I asked them how much they cost and they said $1000, I said a pair cost $1000? They said no, one wheel cost $1000, the pair is $2000. They figured that with the speeds I'm currently riding, I'm the type of person that would most benefit from the new bike and wheels. I told them I could go faster if I dropped another 10 lbs before I looked at buying new wheels.
My training session tonight was a 90 minute tempo bike ride. I took out the old Trek and for the first 45 minutes it felt super comfortable. After that time it started to feel uncomfortable. I ended up riding 47.5 km and averaging 31.4 kph with a 24 km wind blowing. Overall the ride was okay.
