Tapering with a triathlon...

Yesterday was a rest day, today was swim, bike and run training in preparation for my race on Saturday.

I was up early and did a 1500 meter swim. Some of the intervals were 100's and my best 100 was at 1:35, I was breathing out one side only and going full out. I was real happy with the time and at no time did my chest hurt.

After dinner I did an hour bike ride, I did just over 30 km and averaged 30.4 kph. I was able to keep my heart rate under 134, except for the time I had to beat another cyclist up a hill, my competitive juices got the best of me and I couldn't hold myself back. I ended up leaving him in the dust. The overall average speed of the workout was slower than I would have like to have done, but for half the ride I was going directly into a head wind.

I did a 35 minute brick run after the bike ride. My heart rate was great, it stayed around the 128 - 133 bpm range. The only downside to the run was that the side of my knee was still sore from when I fell off my bike last weekend. I ended up running at an 8:30 pace.

After all the draining I did a pre-race leg shave, I don't know how women do this all the time, it's hard, and now I'm resting my liver for when my relatives arrive tomorrow. When I asked my brother in-law what he would like to see while he was here, he said "the LCBO".
