Now that I got the green light to train, I had two speed workouts today. One was a 3000 meter speed swim and the other was just over an hour speed bike session.
The swim when well. The core workout was 20 x 100 meters with a 10 second rest between the first two and a 45 second rest after every third. The fastest I did was 1:43 and the slowest was 1:49. I was pleased. I felt strong. I never look forward to the swim, but after about 30 minutes of swimming, I get into a Zen like state and time goes by faster. On the bike I wanted to go hard, but not too hard because of my tender knee. The one thing I was happy with was that I was able to average over 40 kph for one of my 9 minute intervals. Overall I was pleased with both training sessions. My quads felt it.
I can hardly wait until the season ends in September. I've been going very hard since January 11th and I looking forward to a break. I've discussed this with my coaches and figure next year will be a six month season from April 1st to Sept 30th. Then for the balance of the year I'll focus on running and weights, with a little biking and swimming. I'm also glad to see that my body is back to normal from last weekend. I'm back down to 178 lbs from 183 lbs, my plumbing is back to normal operation and my resting heart rate is in the 50's standing and in the 40's sitting. Now of course this weekend is a long weekend, so who knows what will happen.
